ARKIVE
Archival process in magazine format.

zines.jpg

ARKIVE is an ongoing self-published quarterly photozine. Its approach is deliberately sparse, in the spirit of Japanese new-wave photozine culture: no attempt to over-contextualise the work, just images placed in relation to one another and allowed to speak through rhythm, contrast and sequence. More than an archive in the conventional sense, ARKIVE is about the act of publishing itself; by revisiting, selecting, sequencing, printing and giving photographs a material life.

Each issue brings together 40 to 60 pages of images, either drawn from (as the name implies) 20+ years of archives or from more recent everyday photography.

The first issues were produced in very small editions of ten copies but as the project develops, previous and future issues will also eventually become available through print-on-demand, allowing ARKIVE to remain accessible beyond those initial editions.

This space shares a short sampler of each issue.
